Girls U17 Cup Match

Girls U17 Cup Match

Well done to the girls U17 soccer team who had their first match of the season, the school hasn’t been able to field a senior team in about 8 years so it was a really special day! They played Larkin Community College in the Cup, they actually had 2 international players on their team but our Aidans girls kept them quiet enough.
The girls were fantastic! The rain poured down and the wind was wild for the entire game but not one of them complained! They were excited to represent the school. Captain Toni Halpin led the charge with her positivity, she won the toss and we played with the wind on our backs in the first half.
Immediately we knew the girls were up for it and as the game went their confidence and spirit lifted! Almost immediately we attacked and had a shot on goal, scored by Sarah Oloshuto. In the end she got 3 more and could’ve had a lot more!!
Nicole Warner and Sarah Shelly we’re doing damage on the wings and Samantha O Toole and Vice Captain Katie Keogh were like Roadstone in defense! Chanel Smith moved from right wing to right back after 20minutes and she really dominated. Charlie Howard in goals made some phenomenal saves to keep the score line down. Sarah Shelly scored a cracker to the top corner near the end to bring the final score 8-6 to Larkin Community College.
Myself and Ms.Abbey were so proud of the girls, they showed great team spirit and fight throughout. We go again on Tuesday in the League against Ringsend, I have a feeling it’s going to be a very good year for this group of girls.
