To 6th Year Students, Parents and Guardians

As our final year students you are of course a priority for us this in these final months. Minister Norma Foley referred to this when she first put forward her plan to have 6th years attend school in January. In putting forward the plan she acknowledged the unique position of sixth years as they prepare for the Leaving Certificate.

As you know the Minister’s plan will not go ahead and 6th years will now also be taught remotely. This period of uncertainty is very difficult for you. I want to assure you that the school will support you in every way possible in these final months of your second level education, whether you are attending classes in school or online.

We know that a big difficulty experienced by many students in the last period of remote learning, was lack of access to a suitable device for logging into the Google Classroom. Many students were using phones and these do not seem to be ideal for schoolwork.

The school has been given funding for IT from the government and in preparation for the possibility of a situation like this the Board of management decided that we should use the funding to buy devices. The plan was that sixth year students could then be given use of a device for any period of remote learning. I am happy to say that as a result of this we are in a position to give a Google Chromebook to any sixth year student who needs one.

We hope to give these devices to 6th years on Monday and we will be in contact with all of you to arrange a time for you to call to the school to collect your Chromebook. There is no need for students to contact us to tell us that they need a device. Students will simply call to the school at their given time.

We hope that this will be a significant help to students as they re-engage with the remote leaning process. Remember also that there is guidance on the Google Classroom on our website and we will also make arrangements on Monday for students, parents and guardians to be able to contact the school should they need further help.

I wish you the very best of luck with your studies over the next few months

Warm regards

Karen Quigley
