Return To School

We have come to the end of the first full week with all students in school and I am very happy with how everything has gone so far.

Well Done to All!

The students have been a credit to their parents and guardians this week. They have been excellent in adhering to government guidelines regarding the wearing of face coverings, hand sanitizing, cough and sneeze etiquette and social distancing. We have a few new routines and procedures in place and they are cooperating with these. As a result the atmosphere in the school is one of calm and order. It is clear that you as parents and guardians have worked with your children to instil in them a sense of responsibility around this difficult situation.

Thank you also to all staff of St. Aidan’s. The ancillary staff have worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks to ensure that the school could reopen in line with the new guidelines. All staff are also working with the students to ensure that they are familiar with and can follow our new routines. It is not easy to teach or to learn with face coverings and social distancing. However as always teachers and SNAs are doing their utmost to ensure a good learning experience for the students.

A big part of the safety in school at the moment is of course a rigorous cleaning regime. We currently have several levels of cleaning and disinfecting in the school

1) Students are wiping down their own tables and chairs at the end of every lesson

2) There is full time cleaning in the school throughout the day. The emphasis is on frequently touched surfaces such as door knobs, stair rails etc.

3) The school is thoroughly cleaned as always at the end of the day

4) The school has purchased an Emist electrostatic disinfecting sprayer. This system applies a disinfectant solution to surfaces using electrostatic induction charging. The liquid droplets are positively charged by the spray system and then driven to the various surface areas. This makes the system more effective than a regular fogging machine. A handheld emist sprayer is used throughout the day to target smaller areas. The entire building is disinfected on a weekly basis using the larger sprayer.

A combination of hard work and cooperation by all and thorough cleaning and sanitization is our best defence against this virus and I thank everyone for playing their part.

I wish everyone a lovely weekend
